since 1990. Granny Nannies is a Licensed Nursing Agency Insured

Granny Nannies has Good News for Veterans!
There is a program available to veterans or surviving spouses
which offers a monthly payment from the Department of Veterans
Affairs. The Aid and Attendance Special Pension is designed to
provide care for veterans who require the regular attendance of
another person to assist in eating, dressing or toileting
issues. The web site to find out more information about this
program including downloadable forms needed is

The
meeting was great: It was good to see some familiar faces.
The Central Florida Brain Injury Support Group attendants
were sharing all the great activities they have been
involved in. Some volunteer; reading to school children,
some write their poetry and sing, and some take on the
challenges of school. We have those who step outside their
comfort zone and learn new activities like riding a bike. We
are very proud of you, but encourage everyone to practice
safety. This is always the best rule to follow when trying
something new. The majority of us are striving to take care
of the basics of our lives. Like our home maintenance,
family, friends and our church activities. We are proud of
all of your individual efforts in the quality of our lives
and the challenges of managing our disability to the best of
our abilities.

John & Lisa
We would like to welcome
the new attendants: Dick, Linda, Cheryl and Bella & Ray. It is
good to see: Ricardo & Johanna with son Emanuel, Walter, Jen &
Rich, Peg & Paul and everyone. Please keep up with, Darleen Li’s
progress on her blog
http://betherewithdarleen.blogspot.com
Please share your contact
information for notification of future meetings & events.

Patti sang her “Simple
Dreams” as a tribute to Martin Luther King.
A special thanks to Peggy for taking notes of the meeting.
Order of Meeting:The
Pledge of Allegiance, Review our mission statement, Check out
Christmas Cards we received, Went over ground rules, Request
everyone to sign Thank You Cards to Steve Igou and Diane &
Granny Nannies, Went over last year’s attendance, perfect
attendance earns sponsorship to BIAF Jamboree in June, winners
are: Lisa, John, Sue, Myles.
Since Orlando is the
Jamboree host city we should have a strong presence.
Keep an eye on our web
site we should be getting an upgrade. Any suggestions for plans
for March National Brain Injury Awareness Month, also are our
officer elections. If you are interested in applying for
position please submit your qualifications and goals. You must
attend two consecutive meetings to qualify to vote. Plus, we
have to keep track of who brings the most new attendants in
2010. To encourage regular attendance there was a drawing for a
gift certificate to Target that our new attendant Bella won.
Brain Injury Association of Florida will sponsor me to go to
Tallahassee on 16 Feb 2010 to meet with 2010 Florida Legislature
to urge them to increase TBI program funding and encourage
passage of Senate Bill 252 The Veterans Health Care
Authorization Act of 2009, House Bill 1347 The Concussion
Treatment and Care Tools Act of 2009 and House Bill 1483 The
National Neuro-technology Initiative Act of 2009. We should
consider ourselves honored to participate along with other brain
injury support group leaders in Florida.
Brain
facts: the human brain weighs 2 ¼ - 3 ¼ pounds and has the
consistency of firm tofu, the lobes of the brain are the
frontal, parietal, temporal and occipital, the brain is the
portion of the central nervous system that is contained within
the skull. It is the control center for movement, sleep, hunger,
thirst, and virtually every other vital activity necessary to
survival. All human emotions – including, love, hate, fear,
anger, elation, and sadness – are controlled by the brain. It
also receives and interprets the countless signals that are sent
to it from other parts of the body and from the external
environment. The brain makes us conscious, emotional, and
intelligent.
We would like to express
Special Thanks for invaluable professional assistance in a
variety of matters to:
Kelly Judkins, Brain Injury Association of Florida
Samme Ripley, Orange County ADA Disability Officer
The Pineyro Law Office for creation of our new logo and
providing copies of newsletter
The Law Office of Steven “Woody” Igou for

Our appreciation for the
many efforts put forth to allow this month’s meeting to be
another success. Please let Marie Terese Henderson know if you
are able to provide any assistance, as it would be greatly
appreciated and always needed.
You all can be very proud
of what we have accomplished because we are touching the lives
of fellow brain injury survivors. The most important Thank YOU
is to you Lord for the gift of our web master Iona who makes all
of us come to life on the Central Florida Brain Injury Support
Group web page. Be sure to check out local events, recent and
archived minutes with pictures on

“Remember to enjoy the
moment you are in. The smile on your face shows the joy in your
heart. Have Faith with Grace and hold Hope next to the Joy in
your heart and Kindness will follow you with Love.” In these
hard economic times when services are being cut. We need to
extend a helping hand to our fellow man. Together we can be
strong for each other and share in the faith that we have what
we need now and the Lord will provide any other needs when the
time presents itself. With the attitude of giving, loving, and
sharing with one another indeed we will succeed. Always and
Forever We look forward to your continued support.
