OBIS Received the Following Letters:
Hi All at Orlando Brain Injury Support,
I apologize for the seemingly random contact, but I
got your information from the Brain Injury
Association of America and I thought that you may be
interested in and able to help me with a project
that I am working on. I'm a Researcher and Casting
Associate at MTV Networks and am currently working
on a documentary following young people who are
suffering from amnesia.
You may or may not be familiar with MTV's True Life
-- it's a long-running, award winning documentary
series that seeks to have young people share their
stories, in their own words. The format is strictly
first person, which is to say that we don't filter
the voices of our subjects through narrators or any
similar third parties. All we do is follow them;
it's our hope that by allowing these people to use
their own voices to tell their stories, and
communicating directly with their peers, we can
impact the way people interact and engage with the
world they live in.
One of the themes we’re currently
exploring for this particular episode is memory loss and the
devastating side effects that can occur as a result of a brain
injury. We are interested in finding young people whose lives have
been dramatically altered by the inability to remember or to form
new memories. We are also interested in learning what kind of
therapies and treatments are used in attempting to recover memory
loss.
Our official casting call reads: Have you experienced some sort of
physical or emotional trauma that has affected your ability to
recall or create new memories? Have you been diagnosed with a form
of amnesia as a result of a brain injury or extreme stress? Has your
memory loss affected relationships that you were once fully invested
in? Are you or your loved ones frustrated by your inability to
remember your past? Or perhaps you've suffered an injury that has
affected your short-term memory. If you or someone you love has
experienced memory loss and has been diagnosed with amnesia, MTV
wants to hear your story.
If this sounds like something that
you might consider, I'd love to give you more information about this
project -- and if you know of anyone else it might be beneficial to
contact, please do let us know. I can be reached via email at
amnesia@mtvn.com or by
phone at (212) 846-8850.
Thank you so much for any assistance
that you can offer. I look forward to hearing from you!
Best regards,
Kristen

Marie Terese,
This is an absolutely beautiful and well put together recap of
the Orlando Brain Injury Support Group’s meeting. It is so well
done! KUDO’S!
LOVE this. Every support group
should be doing something similar not only to provide info to
those who were not able to attend but to show possible new
members what goes on, the balance between survivors and
caregivers and most importantly to show they are not alone and
all they can learn by joining.
You are AWESOME!!!!!
I’m cc’ing this to my contacts at
Lakeland, ORMC and Halifax so they can forward to their social
worker or case mgmt staff to refer folks to an awesome support
group as I think your members have all been to one of the three
Trauma Centers.
Can you put me in as speaker for August? I am available. I will
bring snacks!
